Revolutionising Climate Action and Social Impact
Mpowa is organised as a franchise network, bottom up, with each local operational team headed up by experienced, qualified and passionate social entrepreneurs who join the platform bringing significant network capacity to the business. The objective of these franchise teams is to utilise the Mpowa Impactivator platform to scout for interesting and exciting impact project opportunities, by growing the local ecosystem partner network, supported by individual heroes who act as the project developer.
Though we explicitly operate a decolonisation strategy with self organising local teams, there is a co-ordinating “brain”, the Mpowa Heroes Academy CIC, based in the UK. This entity is responsible for the capacity building, training and mentorship program, and oversight of the operations of the ecosystem via a central project office including quality assurance and verification of project design documents, impact/theory of change metrics and the vetting of new joiners.
In order to design explicitly for exponential scale, the business operating model of the DAO is based on the US constitutional framework, with 3 branches of government (Executive, Congress, Legislature) represented respectively by:
Heroes Academy CIC (Executive)
Heroes (Congress) / Country Managers (Senate)
Ecosystem Partners (Legislature)

Clean Technology Innovation
Mpowa started out in 2019 with the bold vision of democratising zero carbon energy via a decentralised blockchain network of connected nodes, each one responsible both for energy production, compute (AI) and communications. This revolutionary innovation remains very much a long term ambition of the founder Ryan Lavelle, and R&D work is anticipated to commence post successful launch of the platform.
In lieu of this, a number of other disruptive technology solutions are available to Mpowa projects due to our close relationships with the inventors.
Heroes Academy
All great social transformations in history were led by university age youth unwilling to accept the “Status Quo” and going out into the world with determination to change things for the better.
In the course of developing our idea for decentralised energy, we realised that alongside the problem of access to capital and technology, one of the key barriers holding back developing countries is serious expertise.
The idea to establish a “heroes academy” was initially born during the extended visit of Mpowa founder to South Africa in 2021, during the dark days of COVID. Having encountered so many young, passionate and talented Africans, fighting to improve their communities, but held back by lack of access to the resources and training they needed to initiate viable impact projects, led me to the conclusion that the primary mission of Mpowa and our platform should be to capacity build the army of social transformation who can carry the mission we have set ourselves.
Along the way we recruited some experienced and capable experts in the field of education, Dr Boikany Trust Phenyo and Dr Ikechi Agbugba, who now lead the rollout of this program.
And now finally in 2025 we are preparing to launch Mpowa Heroes Academy and its associated digital learn-to-earn platform to the world, with the rollout of the program via our collaboration with myQuest.
Disaster Relief Program
As we developed our market outreach and community growth across Africa, we encountered many situations and people dealing with crisis situations where the international community and national governments are failing to deliver meaningful support to local populations.
Given this gap in the market, we saw a unique opportunity to leverage aspects of the Mpowa platform, alongside external partners, to initiate projects to better assist these communities and bring resources directly to the most needy.
As of writing we have projects ready to launch in 4 countries: Nigeria, Liberia, Kenya and DRC alongside local partners LSOH, GROW, APDC and SYCADI (insert links). Details about the projects and links to the project fund wallet where you can make donations will be available on the Impactivator marketplace in Q3 2025.

Regenerative Agriculture (EcoFarming)
In keeping with our stated vision of ending scarcity in all its forms, Mpowa has partnered with Netherlands based Easy Solar Group to develop large scale solar farming projects based on regenerative local community farming models. Such projects integrate multiple aspects of Mpowa’s technology capability and digital platform, providing advanced digital monitoring and “end to end” oversight and governance for strategic investors and partners.
The first large scale pilot project, entering commissioning in 2025 will be in Zimbabwe. Future projects are planned for Nigeria, Kenya, Botswana and Zambia.
Women’s Empowerment
Mpowa fundamentally supports and encourages equality and justice for all. As we have encountered in our work on the ground across Africa, many communities suffer from extreme problems of violence and abuse of women and girls. We believe that before critical problems like climate change can be tackled, we first must solve fundamental issues of social justice, security and equality for women.
To demonstrate our commitment, in 2024 Mpowa commissioned the Department of Criminal Justice Studies at the University of North Dakota to produce a report on the subject of Intimate Partner/Gender - Based Violence (GBV) against women in Africa. This report serves as a vital resource in shedding light on the pressing challenges women face, particularly in regions where GBV is prevalent, and calls for urgent action to address these human rights violations.
Strategic Sourcing
Early in 2025 Mpowa was approached by local broker agents of gold miners in Ghana looking to source international buyers of their product. While initially skeptical due to the many inherent problems and environmental, social impact of the mining industry in general, we have taken the decision to bridge the gap between global markets and Africa's abundant mineral resources through transparent, ethical, and sustainable practices. Our specialized advisory services focus on strategic sourcing of minerals and gold while ensuring compliance with international standards and creating positive social impact, with all proceeds redistributed across the Mpowa Africa branch network to support and scale continent wide operations.
Our approach is to leverage deep understanding of African markets and ESG principles to connect responsible buyers with ethical producers. Our dual expertise allows us to:
Advise mining operations on sustainable practices that meet global compliance standards
Guide international buyers in accessing ethically-sourced minerals with complete supply chain transparency
Facilitate transactions that benefit local communities while meeting market demands
Since 2023, Mpowa has been committed to the UN Global Compact corporate responsibility initiative and its principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption.
